Pre-Feasibility
At the outset we recommend a pre-feasibility study to assess the viability of implementing renewable energy solutions for a site. In essence the study aims to reassure clients that the site is suitable for the proposed technology and the cost benefit analysis reaffirms the decision to proceed. Conversely, the study will identify any site constraints, planning and logistical issues which in our opinion would justify a rethink.
For example; wind turbines are the technology of choice for most organisations as they embody the climate change message. However, they also happen to be the most challenging and the density and proximity of housing, trees and other obstacles needs careful consideration before further costs are incurred on the project. Our pre-feasibility study explores site suitability overlaid with planning considerations to assess the potential for a wind turbine. Also included are indicative paybacks and ROI for a range of turbines.
Our pre-feasibility service is a fixed price and fixed-scope consultancy-based service; clients know what to expect and what it will cost from the start. Key areas of work include:
- Environmental – considering impact on: landscape; CO2 emissions; species, habitats and nearby buildings.
- Engineering and Technical – comparing renewable technologies; equipment costs; design and construction.
- Economic – researching financial implications; ownership; grants and assistance.
- Regulations – checking planning guidelines, safety and building requirements
On completion and if no insurmountable barriers are discovered, the project would typically progress to the feasibility stage.
