Father Collins Park - 5 Entegrity 50kW Wind Turbines
Dublin City Council's Flagship Urban Park
Perpetual Energy, one of the UK's fastest growing developer and operators of Sustainable Heat and Power Systems, has been working with Dublin City Council Company on their €18m redevelopment of Father Collins Park.
Perpetual Energy was asked to recommend a size and number of turbines that would match the energy requirements, while delivering the architects vision for the site.
Perpetual Energy worked with Buro Happold to ensure the turbines would provide the largest energy contribution and ensure that the park would operate with minimum carbon emissions. The turbines will be situated in the lake (a possible first in the Europe) this meant working closely with the architect and structural engineers.

Father Collins Park, an existing park near Donaghmede in North Dublin is being fully redeveloped and shall contain the following:
A number of information display systems will also be supplied and installed by Perpetual Energy at the site. These will provide educational information on the performance of the wind turbines showing the amount of energy produced and illustrate how much carbon has been saved. |
The benefits
It is predicted that this combination of renewable energy solutions will deliver
up to 100% of the electrical load for the park (at peak output); while at night
there is the potential to supply excess electricity back into the grid. The energy
produced given the expected wind speed for the site will save 163 tonnes of CO2
per annum.
The solution
Perpetual Energy has proposed, specified and overseen the installation of five 50kW wind turbines (Entegrity EW50's) as well as renewable energy information display systems.
We worked with the client and the main contractors in a turnkey role. We will take
the client's project from design, through product supply, installation and project
coordination right through to subsequent maintenance. In some cases we also provide
financing of renewable energy assets.
Summary
This was a great project to showpiece renewable energy technologies in a recreational setting, integral to the original design.
The location of the turbines in the lake, with the foundations and base of the turbine to be submerged, meant that Perpetual Energy had to modify the foundation design to avoid corrosion and provide ease of maintenance. The result should set standards for renewables in similar regeneration schemes.
