Richard Irvin Group – Aberdeen Head Office wind turbine

Richard Irvin Services Group

Perpetual Energy, one of the UK’s fastest growing developer and operators of sustainable heat and power systems, has been commissioned by The Richard Irvin Group to install a 50kW wind energy generator for their prestigious new corporate headquarters in Aberdeen.

Located hundreds of feet away from the North Sea with NOABL data indicating speed winds of 8.9m at 45agl, the wind turbine, mounted on a 25m monopole tower is expected to contribute significantly to the new offices electricity requirements. Electricity not used on site will be exported to the National Grid.

Perpetual Energy estimates that the Entegrity 50kW will generate approximately 100,000kWh a year representing a reduction of 56,000kg/CO2/year. The EW50 is also eligible for double ROCs.

As a building services company, Richard Irvin Group, collaborated with Perpetual Energy on the mechanical and electrical installation. Due to restricted space in the existing switch room Perpetual Energy technicians redesigned the turbine control equipment to fit into a single cabinet and upgraded the internet monitoring and control facilities.

On completion of the work Perpetual Energy undertook DNO testing and commissioning.

The installation of this Entegrity EW50 wind turbine raises the total number of installations to eight in the British Isles, with three more turbines due to be erected in the first half of 2009.
