WHAT IS BIOMASS?

The Biomass industry is gaining more and more momentum as the benefits continue to grow. Outlined below is a general overview and benefits of the use of biomass in heating systems. To learn more and to book a consultation Click Here to visit our associate company Ashwell Biomass who are industry leaders in biomass systems and installations of all sizes.
Biomass
A biomass heating system provides a sustainable form of energy production, it's effect on the environment is limited as the carbon released during burning is part of the natural carbon cycle. Biomass produces heat and electricity with less effect on the environment than fossil fuels.
There are five basic categories of material:
Virgin Wood - from forestry, arboricultural activities or from wood processing
Energy Crops - high yield crops grown specifically for energy applications
Agricultural Residues - residues from agriculture harvesting or processing
Food Waste - from food and drink manufacture, preparation and processing, and post-consumer waste
Industrial Waste - and co-products from manufacturing and industrial processes.
How does it Work?
Energy in the form of heat is generated from the combustion of biomass. The heat output from biomass is more cost effective than compared to fossil fuels and is a reliable source of heat. Biomass is a renewable source of energy compared to fossil fuels that are finite and being depleted year on year.
Financial Support
The government are backing the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). The RHI is the world's first long-term financial support programme for renewable heat. Get paid to use renewable energy to heat your building. In addition to earning a 20 year guaranteed income for generating heat via the RHI scheme.
Scale
Biomass plants range from small manually fed systems to fully automated systems suitable for small business, corporate, industrial or agriculture. Clients include plant nurseries, chicken farmers, golf clubs, hotels, apartment buildings, recycling facilities, kitchen manufacturers and the list goes on...
Biomass Benefits
As fossil fuels become increasingly expensive year on year, you will save money by eliminating or reducing your need for oil or gas. The government varies it's incentives on biomass over time, but on average you can expect to receive a guaranteed income over 20 years and as part of the the RHI you can form part of the 12% of the population running on renewable energies.
As an organisation you can meet your green targets by helping to reduce greenhouse emissions and go a long way to meeting your targets on emission reductions.
